Changing your cellphone number is a pretty disruptive thing. Everybody that you know suddenly finds that you have disappeared off the face of this planet leaving no clue of your whereabouts. When in the past you considered yourself popular, now you have nothing to do on Friday nights. Informing everybody of your new number can be a pretty major exercise especially if some of the these people are pretty women you gave your number to at a nightclub the weekend before you decided that you could not stand your wireless carrier anymore.
Changing domains on the Web is a little like that.
A few weeks ago, such a disruption in my “web life” came about as Ximian (now owned by Novell, Inc.) expressed its inability to continue hosting my webspace. And that is how my stint at primates.ximian.com ended. Rahul and I spent quite some time thinking of a name for our new domain but in the end, we were quite happy with what we came up with – rpmduplex.net. Hopefully, this domain shall remain ours as long as the Web continues to exist in its current form.
I have always been grateful to Ximian for hosting me all these years and continuing to retain my email address but as all good things must come to an end, so much this. I do sincerely hope that all this disruption does not mean a loss in my blog readership. But when there’s Google, I guess there is little to worry about
So welcome to my new home, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you will stay on as we enter the 5th year of this blog’s existence!
