Daylight Saving Time

Today is the last Sunday of October and that means Daylight Saving Time (DST) is no more in effect.

When I first learnt about DST, I was rather intrigued. Although I liked it, I couldn’t quite understand why it was done. So one fine Sunday morning, Vidya and I did a Google search to come across this website which told us quite a few things. Check it out if you want to know more about DST.

I like the idea of having more daylight. I find that in the day, as I keep looking out the window from time to time to gauge how much light there it, I keep thinking that night is still a long way off (even at 7 pm). Suddenly, the sun sets and the time is 8:45 pm which is when I think it is time to go home and by then, of course, I have done quite a bit of productive work for the day! Not bad at all :-)

I know for a fact that Chris is not particularly fond of DST but I forget his exact reasons. Could it be that I am still too new to understand how it can get to be a pain ? We shall see!

Meanwhile, I say, India ought to get two timezones. The East-West span of the country is not exactly trivial and I think some good economic value could be derived from taking advantage of the difference between Calcutta and Bombay. But that is assuming the Calcuttans actually get any work done (with all their fuss about communism and soccer). Right, nOnda ? :-)

It definitely makes more sense here in Minneapolis..it got dark by 5:00 pm here (actually 6:00 pm)…
will post soon on the utility of public libraries, where I have been spending the last 4 days researching on everything from houses to books to cars :-)
