Spring break is on

I am telling you, this place St. Louis is really funny. No wait, let me be more accurate – Wash U is one funny place. I mean, they say it is Spring break from Mar 3-7 and do you know what the freaking temperature is ?! 25 F ! Am I supposed to even pretend that Spring is close-by ? :-)

Anyway, Monday morning it is and I was a little puzzled this morning to see nobody at all at the Shuttle stop. It was only when Booze reminded me that Spring break was on and that we were the poor graduate students to whom break or not made no difference ;-) Well I am not complaining one bit – I find that the learning experience here has been tremendously satisfying.

Speaking of which, this Saturday I did an assortment of things – I came to school to read my Discrete Math book and revise my fundamentals on random variables and probability distributions. I also read up on RAID technology; how clusters work and how one should go about designing one; I also read two issues of Linux Journal and caught up with some nice articles on Blogs, content management platforms like Zope, special optimizations in the Intel compiler etc etc.

I also saw this program on CBS’ Sixty Minutes about IIT graduates and the impact they have had on the US technology boom and the economy in general. I have to tell you that the show was exceedingly flattering to us IITians but nevertheless, it certainly does speak the truth ! I particularly like Narayan Murthy’s attitude in the matter – his company, Infosys, isn’t India’s most admired company for nothing.

Today I feel like Calvin :-)
