Monday update

Okay so another Monday morning it was when I walked out of my apartment building only to be blinded by the sheer brightness of all the massive amounts of snow ! It kinda surprised me at first and I thought there was something wrong with my eyes because the sun wasn’t even out but somehow I convinced myself that it wasn’t the case :-) It would be interesting to know if anybody else had a similar experience. Chris lives in the same apartment building as me, wonder how if he felt the same too.

Otherwise it’s been a pretty normal day. There was a colloquium on “Branch Prediction Fusion” for high-performance processors so I went and attended that – turned out to be pretty good. I am glad this is becoming a habit – there is a lot of things you can learn by sitting in such talks – especially in areas about which you don’t really know much since they don’t happen to be really connected with your own.

The most exciting bit of news for the day is that the cluster which Vidya ordered for her lab [Polymer Rheology, Dept of Chemical Engg] actually arrived today. This is the same high-performance cluster which we spent a considerable amount of time on, researching the configuration vs the price blah blah blah. In the end, she got a fantastic quote from Microway and now it is time to play :-)

At lunch, Anand amused everybody by telling us about the latest avatar of Ganesh which the cricket crazy people in India have come up with – ‘Cricket Ganesha’ :-) Apparently, the fortunes of the Indian cricket team are decided by which way the trunk is turned ! Indians and their madness :-)

I put up a bunch of pictures today in the The Wonder Years album of my photo gallery. Take a look to see some of the snaps from another era altogether ;-)
