Weekends and temptation

The thing I find most interesting about life here in the US is the
truly stunning segregation of work and play – absolutely
nothing happens during the week and well, close to everything happens
on weekends :-) This of course, makes weekends very tempting in that
there are so many things to do with so many different people and
sadly, never enough time to do it all.

This weekend happens to be one of those ones where there is a ton of
work to be done and lots of temptation in the form of going to a club
or out for dinner and spending some good time with friends :-) Well,
here’s the story of how I dealt with it :

Yesterday was spent mostly on working on the assignment in the
Computer Architecture class. Being a rather heavy course, one needs to
do a lot of reading from the excellent textbook and write oodles of
VHDL code. Anyway, so I spent a lot of time working on the assignment
alongwith Zara Khan [a nice lady who is a part-time MS student at Wash
U - have known her since last semester].

In the evening it was time for some driving practise with my
ever-reliable driving instructor Ms. Vidye :-) Some of you who are
well aware of how well I drive might find the fact that I am being so
cautious about the test a big joke, but you see, it is my pride at
stake :-) Being such a reputed driver, I can ill-afford to fail the
test the first time ;-) Anyway, I was doing things perfectly -
parallel parking, stop sign alertness etc etc so I am right on track
to give the test on Tuesday morning.

In the night it was RC’s house where I was invited for dinner -
parathas being made by Debalina – excellent :-) Had a nice dinner and
then contemplated hitting MP Oreilly’s – a cool club in Central West
End. I eventually gave in to temptation and soon it was Rajneesh, Jai,
Debs and Rahul Magan at the club having a nice time. We hit I-170 for
a nice drive to feel good [I always enjoy stepping on the gas :-) ] and
finally got back home at 2:30 am.

So with a huge assignment due on Monday evening, you know what I was
upto ;-)

Saturday afternoon and I am at Vidye’s house for lunch. It’s time to
head to school and get some serious work done :-)
