I am sure many of you have seen in movies and American television serials how the license to drive is looked upon as a symbol of independence and pure freedom in the States. I myself never quite understood why it meant quite so much when I was growing up in India watching Kevin Arnold on ‘The Wonder Years’ but today, having just obtained my Missouri Driver’s License, I have that same feeling of exhilaration which I saw on every American teen’s face in the movies
And while we are at it, I might as well tell you how it happened
This morning I was up at 7:30 and in the driving test center by 8:50 am. My examiner was a nice chap who knew RC pretty well and he took me for the usual routine [which I was so familiar with having practised for so long
] and finally, when we were done :
Examiner : “So that’s it, we are done !”
Me : “Oh good. So … have I passed ?”
Examiner : “Oh of course you passed and very nicely too ! Just one mistake – that’s a 96/100 !”
Me : “Oh really ? Great !”
Examiner : “You know where you made that mistake ?”
Me : “No. Tell me, where was it ?”
Examiner : “You forgot to indicate that you were going right onto Page.”
Me : “That’s it ?”
Examiner : “That’s it !”
So that is how I got my license and am now legally dangerous
Many, many thanks to Vidye who spent so much of her time in making me practise and become perfect at everything and also RC who took me to the test and tested me out last evening
I know it has been sometime since I posted here so here is a rundown of events in the last few days :
On Saturday evening, after some driving practise, Vidye and I took I-64 and then I-270 to get to the Old Navy store where we had some fun shopping – she bought herself some jeans while I bought myself this cool turtle neck sweater
Later in the night, after dinner, we headed to school. And that is when I discovered that there was no power in all of Bryan ! Thankfully, there was power in Jolley and with the wireless network to the rescue, soon I was online, working on my VHDL code. Pis came online a little later and Vidye and I both chatted with him – good fun after a long time and very entertaining as usual !
Sunday was a usual lazy day – especially since my assignment [originally due the next day] was postponed by 3 days – woo hoo
Yesterday was spent mostly in working on the assignment and catching up with other things like mail and the like
Had coffee with Tarannum in the evening at Mallincrokdt just before setting off for my last driving session with RC and Vidye.
Today is the Bridging GAPS event for which Umang is putting up a poster. We hope to be more visible on the grad student scene with our participation – let us see how it goes.
